I was coming back to Canada after returning home to Australia to visit my sister for her wedding, and I lost my permanent resident card. I wasn’t allowed to enter Canada without it, and I needed to apply for a particular travel document to go through immigration. There was a consulate on the other side of Australia that I could mail my application to, and there was another office in Auckland, where I was stopping over on my way home. I decided to go to Auckland and go in person to the consulate as I thought it would be faster than mailing it. I then found out that they mailed everything back to the Australian office, and it cost more money to complete the application there since it was going internationally. I ended up staying in Auckland for 3 weeks, hoping they would accept my application, I was staying at an acquaintance’s house, and it was extremely awkward. I was never so happy to be back home once I landed.
